REQUIREMENTS TO COMPLETE BEFORE YOU CAN ATTEMPT YOUR DRIVING TEST
• 120 Hours of supervised driving experience (must be entered into the authorized VicRoads Log Book which is provided to you when you obtain your learner permit).
• Must be 18+ years of age
• Must have held a Learner Permit for a continuous period of at least 12 months.
To satisfy these requirements you must drive supervised for at least
• 1.5 hours EVERY week for 80 weeks (if currently 16yo) or
• 4.5 hours EVERY week for 6 months!! (if 171/2+yo)
HOW CAN I COMPLETE MY 120 HOURS SUPERVISED DRIVING EXPERIENCE
• USE THE FAMILY CAR ON AN AD HOC BASIS
o This is the cheapest alternative.
Can you drive to and from school/work each day?
drive to do the shopping?
arrange for supervised driving instead of taking public transport?
This could take forever!! You, the car and the supervisor are not always ready at the same time. Let alone the fuel costs.
• HASSLE RELATIVES AND FRIENDS TO LET YOU DRIVE THEIR CAR
o This is also a fairly cheap alternative
As above as well as
Insurance concerns
Multiple input on how to drive – Confused??
Supervising driver must have FULL License
• USE A PROFESSIONAL DRIVING SCHOOL
o This is the most expensive but hassle free option
ADTA Vic (Australian Driver Trainers Association) RRP $45.00/45 minutes
If you chose to complete your 120 hours with Road Wise Driving School the cost would be $7200 + GST ($720) giving a total of $7920.
• Assuming you have a double lesson per week (1.5hrs) you would complete the requirements in 80 weeks. If you gain your learner permit on your 16th birthday then you have about 100 weeks to complete the requirements.
• Note that you must be 18 before you can attempt your driving test and you must have held your permit continuously for at least 6 months.
• A double lesson costs $99.00 (Inc GST).
So, for under $100.00 per week you can avoid all the hassles of trying to arrange your schedule to the availability of a car to practice in. CAN YOU AFFORD $100 EVERY WEEK FOR 2 YEARS? Not many 16-18 year olds can! What are the alternatives?
• Arrange a loan or payment plan!
• Get your parents to pay!
• Get someone else to pay!
• A COMBINATION OF ALL THE ABOVE
o This is the recommended option
Initial professional tuition – basics : maybe 10 lessons
Make formal arrangements with your family to get REGULAR driving experience
Offer to do the driving whenever possible
Professional maintenance lessons : double lesson each 2-4 weeks
• Ensures proper methods and skills are developed
• Provides feedback on driving habits being formed
• Avoids confusion – leaves the technical stuff to the instructor
At 173/4 increase professional lessons to a double per week to gain knowledge of test procedures and routes, local problems, application of road laws to specific situations and hazard perception
Of course, if you want to get your license on or about your birthday, you must maintain your regular driving regime over the entire length of your training. Missed lessons must be made up and the formal arrangements with your family must be strictly adhered to. Failure to do so will result in lengthy delays and greater expense.
MAN/AUTO
Manual or Automatic licenceThis is entirely your choice. We make no recommendations, however, you may like to consider the following:-
A manual licence allows you to drive any car whereas an automatic licence restricts you to cars with automatic transmissions until you get a full licence or undergo a further drive test in a manual vehicle.
Manual cars cost less.
You won't need as many lessons in an automatic.

About Us
• Why Roadwise?
Road Wise Driving School was established in 1997 and has provided high quality instruction to hundreds of clients since then. We come to you and give personal individual instruction – it is not our policy to share or piggy back lessons!
• Our Experience
Our experience provides us with a better knowledge of which are the easiest and most difficult principals for learners to understand and structure the lessons accordingly. All lessons are properly planned to suit the learners requirements.
• Our Instructors
Our Instructors are highly trained in how best to teach learners to drive. They teach learners daily and thus are very experienced in teaching techniques, putting learners at their ease and overcoming nervousness etc. They are patient and understand how learners feel. Because our instructors liaise with VicRoads virtually on a daily basis, they form a better understanding of VicRoads standards, testing procedures and scoring systems, as well as knowing the commonly used test routes. The instructors are expert drivers themselves. They have no bad habits and all have the appropriate qualifications and undergo rigorous in house training to keep up with current trends and changing regulations. As such, they are more able to impart to learners the best driving knowledge, skills and techniques required for safe driving. It is therefore not surprising that our instructors have a very high pass rate for their students.
• Our Cars
You can learn to drive in cars equipped with either manual or automatic transmissions. Our Driving Instructors all have modern cars that are designed for learners. The cars are not only roadworthy and very comfortable, they also have dual controls, which makes the car and all those inside very safe. You will not have an accident with us – and that gives learner drivers great peace of mind.
Logbooks
• Your Logbook!
120 Hours of Supervised Driving
All learner drivers under the age of 21 who obtain their learner permit on or after 1 July 2007 must complete a minimum of 120 hours of supervised learner driving experience (including at least 10 hours at night) before they can take the licence test. These hours must be recorded in an official learner log book that is signed by the learner driver and the supervising driver. This log book is issued to the learner driver free of charge when they pass the learner permit test. Learner drivers who do not accumulate 120 hours (including at least 10 hours at night) and have not been exempted from this requirement, will not be permitted to take the licence test and will lose their test and appointment fees. Learner drivers will not be permitted to complete the learner log book in the Customer Service Centre on the day of their appointment. It is not mandatory for learner drivers 21 years of age or older or learner drivers who obtained their learner permit prior to 1 July 2007 to complete a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving.
Supervising Driver
When you are learning to drive a car it is a requirement of your learner permit to have a supervising driver seated beside you at all times while driving. The supervising driver must have a:
• current full (non - probationary) Victorian car driver licence, or
• an interstate or overseas driver licence that has been held for at least two or more years for the category of motor vehicle being driven by the learner drive
All supervising drivers must also carry their licence with them and are subject to a 0.05% blood alcohol concentration requirement (BAC) (except Driving Instructors who must have a zero BAC), and complete their details in the 'List for Supervising Drivers' in the Learner Log Book. The supervising driver will also have to complete the 'Declaration of Completion' in the Learner Log Book.
120 Hours of Supervised Driving for interstate or overseas learner drivers
All learner drivers under the age of 21 who have obtained an interstate or overseas learner permit on or after 1 July 2007 will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving (including 10 hours at night) before they can take the Victorian licence test. Learner drivers who have recorded 120 hours of supervised driving (including 10 hours at night) in an interstate or overseas log book must transfer this information into an official Victorian learner log book. All entries must be signed by both the learner driver and the main supervising driver. A statutory declaration signed by the main supervising driver verifying that the learner has completed 120 hours of supervised driving (including at least 10 hours at night) and outlining the learner driver's driving experience will be acceptable if the supervising driver cannot sign each entry due to distance. The initial Victorian leaner log book will be provided to the learner driver at no charge.
